| Every winter is a good one at Mount Peter, but this year is shaping up to be something special. From NOAA to the Farmers’ Almanac to our favorite Hudson Valley forecaster, the outlook points to a true snow-lover’s season, and we can’t wait to get started. Here are the signs that have us positively buzzing with excitement!
Cold Snaps on Tap The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting a La Niña weather pattern this winter, which has been known to bring quick hits of cold air to our region. That could mean more chances for snow to pile up on our slopes and plenty of fresh powder days to look forward to. Snow’s Back in the Picture The Farmers’ Almanac says this winter could be one for snow lovers, calling for “dramatic swings and widespread wintry weather” across the country. For the Mid-Atlantic, they tell us there is potential for a colder, stormier season and lots of snow events in the mountains. If those patterns hold, the Hudson Valley could see the kind of winter that keeps the slopes white and the hot cocoa flowing. Cold Nights for Snowmaking Hudson Valley meteorologist Ben Noll expects several sharp cold snaps for our region this winter as the polar vortex dips closer to the U.S. That’s great news for Mount Peter, since cold nights give our snowmakers time to build a strong base. Even if total snowfall is average, those crisp overnight windows will keep the slopes ready for fun and the season going strong. A Season Built for Play In his report, Ben also says this winter may bring fewer big coastal storms and more quick-moving systems tracking in from the west. That pattern can mean lighter, frequent snow and calm stretches between storms. For our guests, that’s the kind of winter that makes it easy to plan a day on the mountain. The roads stay clear, the snow stays fresh, and there are more blue-sky days begging us to get outside and enjoy everything Mount Peter has to offer. You Can Already Feel It There’s a chill in the air, a thin frost on windshields, and the snow pile on our tubing lanes gets bigger by the hour. Winter is on its way to the Hudson Valley, and we can’t wait to share it with you! |
