Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome! We offer skiing and snowboarding, and lessons for each. We also offer tubing. We require all reservations and purchases be made in advance through our online reservation system.
You can purchase lift tickets, rentals, lessons, tubing tickets, gift cards, season passes, and other specials by clicking the “Purchase Here” button under “Rates and Pricing” on our website, or by going to https://shop.mtpeter.com. We do NOT offer cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, or sledding.
While Mount Peter does not have lodging on the premises, Mount Peter loves weekenders and our extended stay friends! We are happy to share the following lodging information to help you plan your next visit to our winter oasis nestled in the beautiful Hudson Valley.
Go to https://mtpeter.com/lodging/ for recommendations on where to stay.
If you are looking to ski, snowboard or tube, appropriate winter attire will ensure your experience is comfortable and safe. Dress in warm layers that can be removed if necessary – it’s easier to cool off than warm up. Waterproof snow pants, jackets, waterproof gloves, hats and scarves, and sunglasses or goggles to protect from sun and glare. For tubing we recommend treaded hiking or winter boots. Unacceptable footwear includes women’s wedge boots, rain boots, sneakers, etc.
We DO NOT rent clothing or goggles, but we do have a retail store called Pete’s Closet on site where you can purchase most of the items above, as well as a few souvenirs to remember your visit with us.
Helmets are not required by New York State Law; it is a personal decision. They are not included in the rental package. The package includes Ski’s, Boot, Bindings and Poles or Snowboard, Boots & Bindings. You must purchase a helmet separately if you choose to wear one.
Dogs are NOT permitted anywhere on the Mountain. Service animals that are specifically trained to aid a person with a physical disability are welcome. Animals whose sole purpose is to provide emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship or to serve as a crime deterrent are not permitted.
For additional information, please go to https://mtpeter.com/policies.
No, sleds and other snow play toys are not allowed anywhere on the snow for safety reasons. We do offer Snow Tubing in a safe and fun environment.
Our lift tickets are equivalent to an Area Pass. Anyone on the snow who is planning on participating in skiing/snowboarding must have a lift ticket and appropriate equipment.
We ask all lesson participants to arrive 90 minutes prior to the start of the lesson. This will give you plenty of time to receive your lift ticket and acquire your rentals if you need them. You should then plan to get to the line-up 5-10 minutes prior to the lesson’s start time. Parents, guardians, or friends accompanying the participant can enjoy our Sunrise Lodge, main Lodge, or pub during the lesson.
If you would like to practice with your child, you would need to have purchased a lift ticket and full equipment. Uphill foot traffic is prohibited.
The minimum age requirements for each activity are:
- Free beginners: 5+
- Kinder Land: 3, 4 & 5 (must be potty trained)
- Kids Camp: 6+
- Learn to Ski/Learn to Snowboard: 6+
- Semi-Private: 7+
These age limits are strict; your child must meet requirements for the lesson, as well as to participate in any group lessons. Group lessons are taught to the lowest skill level, so younger participants are urged to take a Private Lesson, KinderLand lesson, or a Family Lesson with a parent.
Mt. Peter does not have daycare/childcare on premises, nor do we have any non-snow activities for young children.
No one is too young! However, the smallest Ski Boot Rental we offer is a toddler size 10 and the smallest Snowboard boot rental is a toddler size 13. It is unsafe to wear boots that are too big. If you would like your little one to participate in a lesson, or practice with you, we ask you to please find rentals that fit them properly! Age 3 is the ideal age to start lessons. KinderLand Lessons are wonderful for 3–5-year-olds!
Yes, you can upgrade a private lesson to a semi-private lesson if the participants are both at least seven years old and of similar ability. This is booked as a private lesson on the website, then when you come to the ticket window the day of the lesson, you can upgrade to a semi-private for an additional $75. Please note that in a semi-private lesson, the instructor will teach to the lesser ability, so it is important the participants are of a similar skill level.
We are more than happy to reschedule a lesson, however that must be done before 9pm ET on the day before your scheduled date, and it is based upon availability. To do so, Click “My Account” at the top of the page, and log into your account with the email used for purchase. Once logged in, a list of upcoming visits will appear with future tickets and rental items. To reschedule, check the box to the right of the item, click ‘Reschedule Items,’ and select a date from the New Date/Time drop down. If the item is rescheduled to a similar date, such as holiday/weekend or non-holiday/midweek, there will be no charge, and the item will automatically be rescheduled. If there is an extra charge due to the change of rates, you will automatically be taken to the WorldPay credit card page to pay. Note: If the Item you are changing goes from a higher priced ticket to a lesser priced there is No Refund. The item automatically re-schedules, and the change in date can be seen under the upcoming visits section of the main account page. You will not be sent an additional confirmation email.
We only offer daily lift tickets and rentals. If you are going to visit us often, we encourage you to purchase a season pass at the beginning of the season. There are also local places such as Miller Ski and Sport, McAffee Ski and Snowboard, and Ski Barn that offer seasonal rentals and or multi-day rentals.
We do! The Main Lodge houses our Café with an expansive menu. We also have food trucks outside, and a Pub. You are more than welcome to sit, eat, and relax at our outdoor picnic tables, in the Main Lodge, or our Sunrise Lodge, which has 360-degree windows and offers a view of the base of the mountain.
