Mount Peter Celebrates 90 Years of Family, Tradition, and Winter Memories

WARWICK, N.Y. (February 2, 2026) – Mount Peter marked a major milestone on Saturday, Jan. 31, celebrating its 90th Anniversary with a daylong community celebration honoring generations of families, skiers, riders, and staff who have shaped New York’s Family Mountain since 1936.

The anniversary event brought together longtime Mount Peter families, local dignitaries and community members, staff past and present, and visitors from across the region for a full day of festivities. The celebration featured daytime mountain fun, live entertainment, roaming performers, and an evening program highlighted by a torchlight parade, remarks, a champagne toast, and a fireworks finale commemorating nine decades of winter memories.

“This celebration was about much more than an anniversary, it was about family, gratitude, and legacy,” said Amy Sampson-Cutler, Executive Manager, Vice President of Mount Peter. “For 90 years, Mount Peter has been a place where families come together, where kids fall in love with the snow for the first time, and where memories are passed down generation after generation. Seeing so many familiar faces alongside new ones was incredibly moving, and it reminds us why we do what we do.”

During the evening program, guests gathered for a champagne toast, remarks and a heartfelt original poem, which was an adaptation inspired by the George Ella Lyon’s poem “Where I’m From” from Rebecca Sampson – General Manager, President and Amy Sampson-Cutler, Executive Manager, Vice President, reflecting on Mount Peter’s rich history and its continued commitment to providing an accessible, welcoming mountain experience for families. Other speakers included Senator James Skoufis, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec and Warwick Town Supervisor, Jesse Dwyer.

As dusk settled over the mountain, a torchlight parade illuminated the slopes, followed by a fireworks display that capped off the celebration and symbolized both reflection on the past and excitement for the future.

Founded in 1936 Mount Peter has remained a cornerstone of winter recreation in the Hudson Valley, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, free beginner lessons on weekends and holidays, and deep roots in the Warwick community. The 90th Anniversary celebration is part of a season-long milestone recognizing the mountain’s history while looking ahead to the next generation of skiers and riders.

Senator James Skoufis commented, “This is an incredibly special place, and I would be remiss if I didn’t say that in addition to the memories that are created here, in addition to the recreation created here, over these 90 years there have been tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars that have come to this community because of Mount Peter…”

“What an amazing place”, said Assemblyman Karl Brabenec, “Mount Peter, a great family operated place, for years, for decades, and its going to be like that for many years to come”.

“I can officially as Town Supervisor, declare today, January 31st, as Mount Peter Day in the Town of Warwick. Keep it up Mount Peter, great job!”, added Town of Warwick Supervisor, Jesse Dwyer.

Key quotes from the original poem spoken in tandem by Amy Sampson-Cutler and Rebecca Sampason were as follows:
Spoken by Rebecca Sampson:
“I am this mountain who has taught thousands of teenagers what it means to do hard work, leave your problems at the door, and change someone’s day with a smile.”

“I am from watching little kids grow into adults and bring their own kids—and then grandkids—to ski.”

“I’m from a family who laughs, cries, fails, and keeps going.”

Spoken by Amy Sampson-Cutler:
“I am from thousands of hours as a ski instructor… hands down, my greatest job ever.”

“I am this mountain who teaches more than skiing – it teaches life, teaches truth. It teaches resilience and the power of faith.”

“I am Mount Peter, and you are too.”
